GALLERY GOING/ The Christmas tree doesnt have to be buried under the usual avalanche of here-today, out-of-fashion-tomorrow presents. A gift of original Canadian art can give years of pleasure and pride-as well as winning kudos for the clever giver. Here we offer our choice of likely gifts, priced from $3 to $1,000.
At the other end of Queen Street, Archive, the hip, computerized art-rental service, has a knack for putting together approachable group shows of cutting-edge art. Their holiday exhibition called Glo (Dec. 5 to Jan. 31) features works by Eldon Garnet, John Massey, Evan Penny and Sandra Rechico. Look also for small photo transfers by Barbara Astman ($500 framed), black ink figure drawings stitched with white dental floss by Michelle Gay ($500 framed) and a plug-in wall sculpture by Marianne Lovink ($900).
